t H e le A de R MARCH 2018 9 C oreNet Global continues to focus on strengthening its relationships with universities and academic institutions around the world with an emphasis on raising awareness of the corporate real estate (CRE) profession and attracting a diverse pipeline of talent to the variety of exciting career opportunities available. A key part of this initiative centers around identifying and pursuing opportunities to partner with colleges, faculty, and members to introduce CRE curricula into real estate and related programs. To this end, we developed The Essential Guide to Corporate Real Estate in 2015, a handbook that has since been used by more than 8 colleges, including MIT, TU Delft, the University of the Witswatersrand, Arizona State, University of San Diego, and the University of Washington. Instructional tools, including lecture guides and case studies, focus on CRE fundamentals. The CoRE Fundamentals Lecture Series is a seven- module series (with additional modules in development). The lecture series serves as our introductory course in CRE and is designed to give participants an overview of the profession. Each module consists of a slide deck and accompanying facilitation guide (script) that faculty or members can use to provide students with a foundation of knowledge and skills surrounding CRE in an ever-changing business context. Similarly, the CoreNet Global Academic Case Study Series was created in response to numerous requests from faculty around the world. Each case study is aligned with chapters in The Essential Guide to Corporate Real Estate to help reinforce fundamental comprehension of CRE topics. We are grateful for the willingness of member companies to share their stories in this meaningful way. If your company has faced a decision around which you have been forced to weigh priorities (especially legal or financial), and you think the organization would permit us to share your story, you may have the makings of the next great CRE case study. These instructional tools would have far less impact without the time and talent our members are investing in local university outreach. Thirty- three members have volunteered to serve as campus ambassadors, and a number of chapters have dedicated university outreach positions on their boards, placed students in internships roles, offered apprentice programs, and/or provided scholarships. Chapters have also contributed to the success of the CoreNet Global Academic Challenge, which began in 2015 as a high-profile means of attracting graduate and undergraduate college students from all academic disciplines to tackle key challenges facing the CRE profession. More than 1,000 students from 166 academic institutions and 57 countries have applied to participate in the five student competitions held to date. Several universities have begun incorporating the Academic Challenge into their curricula, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, and University of Missouri, Kansas City, among others. We continue to seek new ways to support this important strategic priority. Plans are under way to develop a website portal to the various career opportunities across the built environment in partnership with 26 other real estate-related associations. Also, CoreNet Global has instituted a USD$1,000 Corporate Real Estate Manuscript Prize for research generated by members of the American Real Estate Society (the professional association of real estate educators). Together, with our chapters and members, we are making great progress as we strive to raise awareness of CRE and educate students about the career opportunities available.
